"I sought out the videographer Joe Ludwig to direct a music video for my song. I’d found his clever video work for indie rock bands like Fuzzysurf, Myles Coyne, & Next Paperback Hero. Joe responded to my inquiries promptly, and communicated clearly about his interest, availability/schedule, & what my project might cost. I pitched him a general concept for a video, but it was through our consistent conversations that we formalized our final vision. Joe found his angle and sent me rough samples of what he pictured, so I was able to get a sense of what his approach would be. It really helped. I felt like I “got it” and started brainstorming what I could do to add to his ideas. Our collaboration continued like that throughout the process; truly working together. We chose locations and a date. Our shoot went smoothly. I felt like I got to know this guy and liked him as a person. Joe was able to get everything done within the time constraints he had, and those I needed him to fit. He was completely professional. He had a shot list in mind; like storyboards. He worked quickly and competently, knowing how to set up lighting & camera settings. He chose a specific camera for the slow zoom effect that was so important to the feel of the video. He took risks and I trusted him enough to follow his directions. He edited the video insanely quickly, making color corrections & other smart choices. The final product was exactly what I’d hoped. It had a quirky vibe. It looked classy. It looked different from my other videos. It got a great reception from my fans and friends. Other local creatives praised it. It was a total success. I had a great experience working and playing with Joe. I hope to work with him again."
